Kimberly Mahoney, Ph.D., CVP

    

Dr. Mahoney has over 30 years of experience in various segments of the sports and entertainment industry. Currently, as Principal with Venulogix, Kim manages a wide range of projects for clients related to venue and event operations, as well as the overall management of public assembly venues. She is a Certified Venue Professional (CVP) from the International Association of Venue Managers (IAVM). Throughout her career, Kim has worked in public assembly venues as a contractor, client, and part of the venue management team. She has been involved in the opening of three new public assembly venues including a convention center, an NFL stadium, and a 20,000-seat arena.  

 

Kim’s early career included work as an Account Manager with Show Pros Entertainment Services, Inc. where she was responsible for 750+ gameday event staff members for the NFL Carolina Panthers. She was later promoted to Regional Manager which provided opportunities to expand her experience into amphitheaters, speedways, stadiums, and arenas, in addition to her previous work for the Charlotte Coliseum and Charlotte Convention Center. 

 

Her career then brought her to Columbus, Ohio (currently ranked as the 14th largest U.S. market with a nearly 2.1 million metro area population) where she served as the Guest Services Manager and later as the Assistant Director of Event Services & Administration at the Jerome Schottenstein Center at The Ohio State University. She also previously served as an Assistant Commissioner with the Ohio High School Athletic Association (OHSAA) and as the Director of Communications & Program Development with Columbus Arena Sports & Entertainment (CASE), which oversees the day-to-day operation of Nationwide Arena (home of the NHL Columbus Blue Jackets) and the Schottenstein Center (home of the Ohio State Buckeyes). Since moving to the Northeast, Kim has continued to serve as an integral part of the CASE team as a consultant working on a variety of ongoing projects for 10+ years.  

 

Kim is actively engaged in IAVM and has served on a variety of committees for the past 10+ years, as well as regularly contributing to the Association’s Venue Professional magazine and speaking at the annual conference. From 2018 to 2022, she also served as an evaluator for IAVM’s Academy for Venue Safety & Security (AVSS) and was responsible for evaluating and providing feedback on the instructors and courses. In 2022, she received an IAVM Chair Citation in recognition of her continued support and work to better the Association.

 

Kim is lead author of IAVM’s textbook, Public Assembly Venue Management: Sports, Entertainment, Meeting, and Convention Venues (2015 & 2020 editions) and sole author of The IAVM Blueprint: Event Management (2016). She also previously served as a full-time faculty member at the University of New Haven (tenured), Ohio State University, and University of South Carolina, teaching primarily in the areas of venue management and event management. Kim received her B.A. in communications (minor in sociology) from the University of Kentucky, her M.Ed. in sport and facility management from the University of Georgia, and her Ph.D. in sport management (minor in research methods and cognate in marketing) from The Ohio State University.
